West Central Area’s Washington D.C. trip was an experience that students, and chaperones will not forget. The four-day trip involved beautiful weather, lots of sightseeing, and many miles of walking. Along with the trip being fun, it was also very impactful. One night, the group took a walk through the Vietnam War Memorial, where the students actually got to point out the name of a fallen soldier who was actually from Barrett. The traveling group also got to experience the Holocaust Museum, 9/11 Memorial, and the Arlington Cemetery. Students got to pay their respects to veterans, and even witnessed the changing of the guard for the unknown soldiers of each war.

With the help of two tour guides through the organization, World Classrooms, everyone got to experience many new things. As the group was on their way to the Lincoln Memorial, everyone got to witness the helicopter landing of President Trump coming back to the White House from Minnesota. There were also multiple occasions where students and adults were found to be in utter awe from experiencing the Capital, MLK Memorial, and even getting to walk through Mt. Vernon, George Washington’s estate.

The field trip experience wrapped up with the Smithsonian Museums, and the National Mall. Then bursting through traffic, the D.C. group flew safely back home late Wednesday night, and now have many stories and learning experiences to share with family and friends.
