The West Central Area Knights speech team entered the tournament season on Tuesday, March 25th in Browerville with confidence and enthusiasm.  There were many reasons to celebrate and be proud of their performances.  Haley Henning earned a fifth place medal for her creative expression story, The Perfect Family.  Elizabeth Pollard was named second alternate to the section in discussion.  WCA took the drama duo category by storm, placing fourth, fifth and sixth with the duos of Brina Beyer/Alexa Blume, Ian Wittbrodt/Declan Johnson, and Teagan Quick/Emily Courrier.  Crystal Exe won a third place medal in extemporaneous reading with Kassidy Girard being named second alternate to sections and earning a first in one of her rounds and Gabe Olson just missed qualifying and was very proud of his second place finish in one round.  Kelsey Eystad was also named second alternate to sections in the area of extemporaneous speaking.  Isaac Kreft was second in great speeches with Emma Saulsbury placing fourth.  The Knights had a strong showing in the competitive category of humorous interpretation with Parker Stach getting a fifth place medal, Peyton Hanson earning first alternate and Callie Glawe right behind and getting a third place one of her rounds.  WCA had a strong showing in informative with Rose Borash in third, Tyler Biss in fifth, Spencer Engen as first alternate, getting a second in one of his rounds, followed by Idan Wittbrodt who had a strong third in one of his rounds, just missing being an alternate.  Original Oratory was dominated by the Knights with Lexi Hunter in third, Savannah Swenson in fifth and Annie Engen in sixth.  Nathan Lewis advances to the section tournament with a sixth place finish in poetry.  Ava Jahnke placed fifth in a deep round of competitors in prose and Nathan Saulsbury rounded out the section qualifiers with a fourth place finish in storytelling.  When all was said and done, the Knights missed taking home the second place trophy by only three points behind Browerville/Eagle Valley and will go to Pillager to compete in the section 6A tournament on April 6th with 19 speakers qualifying and 5 additional alternates.  It was a proud day for the Knights!
