The West Central Area Speech Team was excited to be speaking and sharing their talents at the Osakis/Parkers Prairie Speech Tournament. It has been a long winter for us all, especially for a team who has talent and enthusiasm and is excited to perform and often has had practices and meets cancelled due to poor weather. “We are relatively young and have several novice speakers being led by some very talented, more experienced speakers. Unfortunately, it has just been a challenging year, as it feels like we are just starting and finally getting our feet underneath us, when in actuality, we are entering our tournament season next week,” said Coach Kreft.
We are very proud of the tenacity these students have shown as they continue to perfect their pieces and get themselves ready for sub-sections on March 26th. The March 16th meet held in Osakis was very competitive, comprised of both stellar schools known for their strong speech teams and large schools. We had eight speakers who earned either a blue superior ribbon or red honorable mention ribbon signifying a meld score of 9 or better, meaning an average of being in the top three speakers of every round. Blue ribbon winners were; Parker Stach, Lexi Hunter, and Nathan Lewis. Red ribbon winners were; Isaac Kreft, Peyton Hanson, Tyler Biss, Ava Jahnke, and Alana Olson.
