The West Central Area speech team was excited to be performing again as the Battle Lake Lions Invitational hosted them on Saturday, March 2nd. With several meets being cancelled due to weather, many speakers were participating for the first time. Speech is a unique activity in the fact, that you don’t fully understand the experience until you go to your first meet and it was fun to have several “newbies” with us. They fully embraced the experience and did very well.
We were excited to have the following speakers earn medals and ribbons; in Great Speeches Isaac Kreft earned 3rd place and Emma Saulsbury received honorable mention, Savannah Swenson placed 4th in Original Oratory, Crystal Exe got 5th and Kassidy Girard earned honorable mention in Extemporaneous Reading, and Nathan Lewis was 6th in Poetry. Earning second place honors in at least one of their rounds were the new Dramatic Duo of Alana Olson and Tori Floden and Tyler Biss, Idan Wittbrodt and Spencer Engen all in Informative Speaking. Parker Stach earned first place honors in one of his humorous rounds. We look forward to hosting our own invitational in Barrett on Saturday, March 9th.
